Multivitamin for Diabetes
Clinical Study Title:
Do multivitamin supplements attenuate the risk for diabetes-associated
birth defects?
| Plain
English Summary: |
Women with diabetes
are often at risk for delivering babies with certain
birth defects. This research looks at the relation
of nutritional health of the mother prior to conception
through pregnancy to the reduction in birth defects
in women who have diabetes. Comparisons were made
between mothers with diabetes who had babies with
birth defects and those who did not. Their multivitamin
usage was compared and it was found that for mothers
with diabetes, the use of multivitamins before and
during pregnancy was associated with less risk of
birth defects. The use of multivitamins then can provide
a protective effect against birth defects for moms
with diabetes. |
