Multivitamin and pregnancy
Clinical Study Title:
Maternal prepregnancy weight and congenital heart defects in offspring.
| Plain
English Summary: |
This
study looked at the mother's weight prior to being
pregnant to determine if it had an effect on heart
defects in babies. Women who had given birth to infants
with heart defects were interviewed as well as women
who had babies without birth defects as a control
measure. These women were matched based on other criteria,
such as presence of diabetes, etc. They found that
underweight women were less likely to have had a baby
with a heart defect in general. Especially for average
weight and underweight women, the use of a daily multivitamin
reduced the risk of infants with a birth defect even
more. |
