American Diet Inadequate in Vitamin B5
Clinical Study Title:
Availability of vitamin B6 and pantothenate in an average American
diet in man.
| Plain
English Summary: |
This
study looked at the diet and health of American men in
terms of the intake of vitamins B5 and B6. Participants
were given diet instructions and their intake of the
various vitamins was examined. Using this specified
diet, the vitamin B5 availability averaged 50% of
the recommended daily value. The availability of the
vitamin B6 averaged 71% of the recommended daily value.
The average diet then does not meet daily requirements
of either vitamin B5 or B6. This supports the use
of a daily supplement to compensate for these deficiencies.
