Vitamin C Deficiency on Pregnancy
Clinical Study Title:
Vitamin C intake and the risk of preterm delivery.
| Plain
English Summary: |
This
study looked at the effects of vitamin C deficiency
on pregnancy. Participants were pregnant women, and
their vitamin intake during their pregnancy was analyzed.
The intake of vitamin C was examined to find its role
in premature delivery, as well as other complications
of labor. Those women who were severely deficient
in vitamin C had in an increased risk of early delivery,
and an early rupture of the membranes in the womb.
Women who were deficient during their entire pregnancy
had the highest risk of preterm delivery. This suggests
that a daily supplement of vitamin C during pregnancy
can help to reduce the risk of delivering early. |
