Vitamin E in Treating Dysmenorrhea

Clinical Study Title:
A randomised placebo-controlled trial to determine the effect of vitamin E in treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea.

Plain English Summary:
This study examined the use of vitamin E in treating dysmenorrhea. A total of 100 adolescent girls were enrolled in this study. They were given either daily supplements of vitamin E or placebo tablets to take prior to their period and then during the first 3 days of their period. Both groups reported a reduction in severity of pain during menstruation. However, those girls taking the vitamin E reported a larger improvement in symptoms. This suggests that the use of vitamin E can have a beneficial effect on dysmenorrhea.
