Multivitamins to Protect Against Cataracts
Clinical Study Title:
Use of vitamin supplements and cataract: the Blue Mountains Eye
Study.
| Plain
English Summary: |
This
study examined the effect of a daily multivitamin
on cataracts. Patients at an eye clinic were interviewed,
and their type of cataract was established, as well
as severity, and their multivitamin use was also discussed.
Those participants who reported using multivitamins
were less likely to have nuclear cataracts, and those
who used multivitamins for a longer time had a reduced
risk of cataracts overall. The use of a multivitamin
then is suggested on a daily basis as it seems to
have a protective effect against cataracts and the
severity of the cataracts. |
