Vitamin A deficiency in hyperetinolemia

Clinical Study Title:
Hyporetinolemia and acute phase proteins in children with and without xerophthalmia.

Plain English Summary:
The purpose of this study was to look at the role of vitamin A deficiency in hyperetinolemia, night blindness and Bitot’s spots. A total of 236 young children were given either a vitamin A supplement or a placebo. The vitamin A supplements helped to increase the amount of vitamin A that was absorbed by the children. The supplementation helped to decrease the risk of disease. The use of a vitamin A supplement can help to avoid a deficiency and the resulting illnesses associated with a vitamin A deficiency.
