This
study examined the use of 3 different agents, a pravastatin-niacin
combination, a pravastatin-magnesium combination,
or a pravastatin-placebo combination, on the cholesterol
levels of patients with a risk factor for lipid problems.
After 4 months of administration, participants’ cholesterol
levels were measured and compared across the groups.
Those participants taking the niacin combination had
the greatest benefit of cholesterol improvement. The
use of niacin as an additive to cholesterol lowering
medicines has a beneficial effect. |
