Improves Heart Functioning.
Clinical Study Title:
Nicorandil, a hybrid between nitrate and ATP-sensitive potassium channel opener, preconditions human heart to ischemia during percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.
Plain English Summary: |
This study examined the use of nicorandil on the tolerance of ischemia (low oxygen levels) in the heart (as would happen during a heart attack or clot). A total of 16 patients with a history of chest pain related to lesion on one of the arteries. Some of these patients were given nicorandil during the percutaneious transluminal coronary angioplasty, while the other patients were not given anything, and they served as the control group. Those participants who were administered the nicorandil during the procedure had improved lactate metabolism during the operation. This occurred without the ST-elevation. The administration of the nicorandil provided an improvement in the heart function during the procedure. This further supports the use of nicorandil for improved heart functioning and recovery. |
