Vitamin B5

Healthy Skin.

Clinical Study Title:
Effect of topically applied dexpanthenol on epidermal barrier function and stratum corneum hydration. Results of a human in vivo study.

Plain English Summary:
This study looked at the use of a vitamin B5 topical administration on the skin barrier function. Participants in this study were given either a placebo or one of two topical forms of vitamin B5. The study lasted for one week. At the end of one week, the skin barriers were improved significantly among both forms of the vitamin B5 treatment. The vitamin B5 supplementation reduced water loss through the skin. This suggests that topical vitamin B5 in various forms is beneficial to improve the form and function of the skin.
