Vitamin B6

Heart Disease Risk.

Clinical Study Title:
Folate and vitamin B6 from diet and supplements in relation to risk of coronary heart disease among women.

Plain English Summary:
While hyperhomocysteinemia is a disorder that can be influenced by genetics, it is also controllable through diet, and supplementation of things such as folate and vitamin b6. This study looked at the intake of these nutrients on the overall risk of coronary heart disease. In this study, over 80,000 women were interviewed about their intake of folate and vitamin b6 through diet and supplements. The women were then followed and interviewed again over the next 14 years. It was found that women who consumed at or above the daily recommended doses of vitamin b6 and folate were at a reduced risk for contracting heart disease. This suggests that supplementation with folate and vitamin b6 can provide an added protection against heart disease.
