Calcium, Vitamin D, and Nutrition in Elderly Adults
Clinical Study Title: Calcium, vitamin D, and nutrition in elderly
adults.
| Plain
English Summary: |
Evidence exists that
a well balanced diet is important to ensure that all
vitamins and minerals and essential nutrients are
consumed each day to maintain health. To make up for
a lack of any nutrients in the diet, supplements are
often suggested. Calcium is often lacking for many
people in our society. It is often suggested to get
this nutrient from food sources because there are
often other valueable nutrients in foods rich in calcium
that people need as well, such as Vitamin D. However,
further research often suggests that certain populations,
such as older generations, alcoholics, and those with
malabsorption difficulties, are suggested to find
a multivitamin to supply these missing nutrients.
There is also increasing evidence that a multivitamin
supplement for those individuals who are recovering
from a hip fracture may ease healing, and also supply
additional needed supplements that may be lacking
in their current diet. |
