Vitamin Deficiencies.
Clinical Study Title:
Metabolic vitamin B12 status on a mostly raw vegan diet with follow-up using tablets, nutritional yeast, or probiotic supplements.
Plain English Summary: |
A vegan diet can lead to a number of deficiencies of essential nutrients, including vitamin b12. A balanced diet of fruit and vegetables will not always help to meet all nutritional standards. Participants who were on the Hllelujah diet for a minimum of 2 years were enrolled in this study. Labs were done to analyze the levels of b12 in the body. Those with results of deficient levels of b12 were given supplements to compensate for the deficiencies. This study suggests that people following a strict diet monitor their nutrient intake on a regular basis. Additionally, the use of a daily supplement to compensate for any lack of nutrients in the diet is strongly advised for vegans. |
